Skill based livelihood training to farmers and youth
Vrutti has partnered with Godrej Agrovet to provide skill based livelihood training to farmers and youth under its flagship program “Samarth”.
Samarth trains small and marginal farmers to help improve cattle health and increase milk yield. This program aims to improve farmer productivity and in turn increase disposable incomes of poor farmers. The curriculum has been developed by veterinarians & animal nutrition experts at Godrej Agrovet
In program Samarth, both Vrutti and Godrej Agrovet conduct trainings to increase farmer productivity. Samarth provides training to small and marginal farmers in Animal Husbandry and Agriculture. By introducing best practices in farm and/or dairy/poultry/ fishery management to farmers, we hope to improve farmer productivity and in turn increase disposable incomes
Many of our trainees are women. An improvement in cattle health and increase in milk yield therefore helps the farmer’s family in two ways: (a) improvement in nutrition (more milk for the family), and (b) increase in disposable income (higher milk yield means that extra milk can be sold to local dairies as well as lower spends on cattle health). Based on trainee feedback we have initiated trainings on poultry and goat rearing as well increasing awareness on market linkages. Encouraged by the positive response, we plan to add a component of financial literacy into the course to help the farmers do more with the increased income..
The project is being carried out in Chikkabalapur , Karnataka with 1000+ Farmers.
